I earned my Bachelors of Art in Psychology at the University of Michigan in 1997. I decided, however, that the best profession for me is teaching. Therefore, I went back to U of M and obtained my certification for teaching Elementary School. My specialization was Language Arts and Social Studies. I moved to California and I taught 6th grade (Language Art and Social Studies) at Granada Islamic School (Santa Clara, CA) for four years. I moved back to Michigan and taught Islamic Studies, Quran Memorization and Quran reading at MCWS Sunday school (Canton, MI) from 2004-2011. I was also the teacher for 3rd, 4th and 5th grades at Sunflower Montessori, LLC (Livonia, MI) from 2012-2013.
I believe that teaching is one of the most rewarding professions. As a teacher, I hope to influence students in a positive manner and inspire them to be the best person that they can be. I believe that each child should be given the opportunity to learn in an environment that will enhance his/her desire to learn. As a student, I had a teacher that made me realize that learning is not a chore. Through her creative ways she made learning relative to my life and this changed the way I viewed myself and the world. I aim to have the same impact on the students I teach, Insha’Allah. I want to be a positive role model for them because there seems to be a lack of living Muslim role models.
I believe that a teacher just does not teach, but he/she helps students to learn how to apply knowledge to their real lives. A teacher helps students to empower them how to think, solve problems, and to form their own opinions. Insha’Allah, I will try my best to be one of those teachers and to succeed in these goals.
